East Haddam (and more) History River Cruise
Join us aboard RiverQuest and take a relaxing evening cruise on the lower Connecticut River, departure from Eagle Landing State Park in Haddam. Learn about the history of the Connecticut River from members of the East Haddam Historical Society. Learn about Venture Smith, the Goodspeed family and other influential local founding fathers. We will cruise through the towns of East Haddam, Haddam, Lyme and Chester. Bring a picnic basket if you’d like. Light refreshments will be served.

The British dropped anchor at the mouth of the Connecticut River and in the wee hours of April 8th, 136 British officers, sailors and marines, made their way up river on smaller heavily armed boats to Essex to destroy the town’s shipping, specifically the privateer ships. They came ashore at the foot of Main Street. Homes and businesses in town were spared, but, 27 ships in EssexHarbour were burned and destroyed. Follow the route that the British took on the river and learn more about this fascinating event on a narrated river cruise aboard RiverQuest. Search for Fireworks Sunset Cruise
Although there are no scheduled fireworks for this evening, we will “search” for any that may be displayed along the edge of the river. Last year we did quite well! Great time!
