Shanties & Sails, is a public concert series here at the CT River Museum. On Tuesday evenings in June, shanty and sea-song musicians come to our North Deck for a free one-hour live performance. Attendees have the option to continue the fun by boarding our historic reproduction sailing vessel, the Onrust, for a second hour of sailing and live music on the beautiful Connecticut River; ticket purchase required.
An important feature of the marine days of the 19th century, Sea shanty cadences first developed in the 1400s to help sailors complete their daily chores. Shanties were sung by the sailors to follow the rhythm and pace of each job.
Join us as we celebrate the wonder and beauty of the Connecticut River through stories and songs. Seating on board the Onrust is limited for this one-of-a-kind event.
